It's Summer. So, It's the Summer exhibition at the RAA

Previously, the Royal Academy of Arts Summer Exhibition really has been one not to miss. It's a vast exhibition and extremely eclectic; and a lot of fun with that.

Works from all artist's warps of life are submitted, from a Tracey Emin sketch last year, to submissions from a friend of mine. You see some really exceptional work and all quite unexpected as each piece is completely unique from one to the next. You will be greeted with wall to wall coverings of paintings, drawings, prints; Immense canvases and tiny pencil illustrations. Rooms of sculpture and visual stimulation; an incredible sense of humour and immediate impact.

The launch party took place Thursday night, and it appears to have been quite entertaining. I really must go next year! I see Dame Judi Dench and Eliza Doolittle amongst the many who attended. I love the contrasts. (So must become a RAA member: Note to self) And the event was in aid of raising funds for the Academy schools.

The Royal Academy Archean Jeff Koons has created the enormous courtyard sculpture that commences the show. The hyper real perspex piece is clearly a nod at summer hues, light and playfulness.

(Granted, it does look a little phallic here)
I'm always glad when this exhibition comes around in June, and runs until August, It does get incredibly busy so i do recommend booking tickets ahead of time.

It is also in the most beautiful location in London, a stroll from the end of old Bond Street. The summer show opens on Thursday 7th June, until 15th August. The gallery is open until 6pm weekdays, and wonderfully late: 10pm, on Friday and Saturday evenings. Perfect pre glass(es) of wine.

Go see!

For all the details see the gallery's website.
